National Heroes Day

Every last Monday of August, the Philippines commemorates National Heroes Day, a day dedicated to honoring the Filipinos whose courage, sacrifices, and service helped shape the nation’s history and strengthen its pursuit of freedom. It serves as an opportunity to remember the individuals who stood for the country and the principles they believed were worth fighting for.

Heroism, however, is not defined solely by the names found in history books. It is reflected in acts of courage, selflessness, and service—whether on the battlefield, in communities, or in everyday efforts to build a better society. Their stories remind us that the freedoms Filipinos enjoy today were shaped by generations who chose to stand for something greater than themselves.
