Campus Press Freedom Day

A free and responsible campus press remains one of the cornerstones of a democratic and informed academic community. Every July 25, the Philippines observes Campus Press Freedom Day, recognizing the indispensable role of student journalists in upholding the people’s right to information, promoting transparency, and giving voice to the experiences, concerns, and aspirations of the student body. The observance also reinforces the significance of the Campus Journalism Act of 1991 (Republic Act No. 7079), which protects and promotes press freedom while encouraging the growth of ethical, independent, and responsible campus journalism.

More than reporting events, campus journalism documents history as it unfolds within school communities. It challenges indifference, encourages meaningful discourse, and fosters critical thinking by presenting facts with accuracy, fairness, and integrity. Behind every published story, photograph, editorial, and broadcast is a commitment to seek the truth, verify information, and amplify voices that deserve to be heard.

As we commemorate Campus Press Freedom Day 2026, let us honor every student journalist, publication adviser, and campus publication that continues to stand for truth despite challenges.
